We provide tools, training, and resources to bring about renewal in the church in Ireland.
Working with all Christian denominations, our mission is to equip the church to help people encounter Jesus.
We are by the church, for the church, and through the church.
An effective tool for evangelisation
Alpha began at Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB) in London in 1977, it was taken by Nicky Gumbel in 1990 and repositioned as a course for those outside the church. The number of people attending Alpha at HTB grew quickly into the hundreds and attracted the attention of other churches across denominations seeking to find an effective tool for evangelisation.
We are passionate about unity
Alpha emphasises the essentials that all denominations agree on. We believe that what unites us is infinitely greater than what divides us. Alpha is an effective form of evangelisation when done by and through the local church.
By focusing on the essentials of the Christian faith, it opens the door for Alpha to be used in almost any context so that everyone has the opportunity to see their friends’ lives transformed by the Gospel.
We believe the church deserves the best
Our goal is to continually support the church with resources and tools that help create a space where people are excited to bring their friends for a conversation about Jesus. The Alpha Suite consists of 7 courses designed to help your congregation and wider community encounter Jesus. Think of it as a toolkit for creating a culture of discipleship within your church with a focus on prayer, hospitality, and mission.
We give it all away
The Gospel is 100% free and so is Alpha. We encourage churches to make it free for guests too. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to explore life and the Christian faith wherever they are in the world at no cost.
We fund our work solely through the generosity of our donors as an Irish registered charity.
The story of Alpha in Ireland
Alpha Ireland began its work serving the church in Dublin, we have now grown into a nationwide organisation with a core team in our national office and a number of regional volunteers.
Each year, more than 200 Alpha courses run in churches of all denominations, with approximately 5,000 people of all ages participating in 2019. The board of management includes representatives of the Roman Catholic and Protestant churches.
While Alpha has grown in Ireland, over the world millions of people have been on one of our courses and it has been translated into 112 different languages.
When once The Alpha Course was given as a series of talks, we now provide high quality video content and a suite of seven courses designed to speak to contemporary audiences in a relevant and engaging way.
The Alpha Ireland office, led by our National Director Dominic Perrem, exists to equip the Irish church in its mission to help people encounter Jesus.
